Slovníczek
This authorial book is an illustrated
pseudo-dictionary of Czech-Polish tricky words, called false friends. It's the
result of a bachelor's thesis defended in 2020 at the University of Hradec
Králové under the supervision of Jakub Horský. Thanks to Erasmus, the project
began in a Polish bakery, where I wanted to buy "czerstwy chleb" and
left with the memory of the disgusted look on the sales clerk's face (because "czerstwy"
means fresh in Czech but stale in Polish) ... Slovníczek was nominated by the
Hollar Foundation for the most beautiful book of 2020. As part of his final
thesis, he was awarded the Marian Szyjkowski Prize of the Polish Institute in
Prague for the best bachelor's thesis in the non-Polish studies category.
