Berlin Trainee Newsletter

An illustrated authorial report from an internship spent in a graphic design studio in Berlin. And everywhere around.

The book Berlin Trainee Newsletter originally emerged as a master's thesis and has received nominations for the National Award for Student Design and Travel Book of the Year 2024. With support from the Book in Progress 2023 contest, it found its way onto shelves across Czechia and even made a home in the heart of Slovakia’s capital. Although the book is written in Czech, it’s made up of about 60% illustrations—so if you're just a little curious and live somewhere in Europe, let’s talk. Happy to send a copy your way. Self-published as my debut, Berlin Trainee Newsletter evolved from a series of mass emails. Want to stay updated? Follow #zpravodajberlinskystazistky

The book is accompanied by a series of original risoprints in A3 format.

Kebab or opera? What’s worth experiencing in a district full of bohemians, students, and Turks? How many bratwursts can a “girl from the East” earn by busking? Can I mix dark and light laundry? And where do I find the energy for all of this after a full day’s work? Through an illustrated authorial report—somewhere between a travelogue, a bundle of letters, and a collection of humorous short stories—I offer a glimpse into the (extra)ordinary days of a graphic design intern. With eyes wide open, bicycle at the ready, and mouth slightly agape in small-town wonder, I tell an authentic story—layered like the walls of Berlin’s streets. With the ambition to inspire, to nudge readers toward their own boundaries (and beyond), or at the very least, to help pass the time on a long train ride.photo:
